On Saturday the 5th of September at 4:35 in the morning there was an enormous earthquake around the Canterbury area of Christchurch. Luckily there was only one causality and that was a lemur who panicked and drowned. On the Richer scale it was rated 7.4 but was later downgraded to 7.1. there are still aftershocks hitting but everyone is starting to rebuild. Some people just couldn't stand it though and fled up to nelson and other 'top of the south' regions. It's a sad case but i hope it will only be a memory soon.

This term we are focusing on speeches. My speech is on 'The Successful Civilisation', which is about what a successful civilisation is. My friends are doing topics like Cricket, Basketball and the Internet. I'm just upgrading my speech and listing to Paul Williams Nelson State of Mind. My mum is judging the competition. I hope she'll be byist!

On Monday the 9th the Totara syndicate had a rubber band car race. Each class was competing against each-other. 2 people from each class (the people with the best cars) became the class reps. Our class reps were Max H and Bianca G. I was in a group with David and Kyle and, with our awesome skill, we made a car that looked like a hummer! The record length it got was 4 metres. Max's record was 8m and Bianca's was 14m! A few hours before the actual race our class reps were allowed to upgrade their vehicles. Max decided to 'pimp his ride' by giving it super big wheels. Unfortunately , he screwed his car and it's top distance was reduced to 6m and it started to go really slow. But Max couldn't change it; it was too late! Off we went to the hall and filled in with all the other classes to form a gap between us, like a race track. Then everyone put down their cars 1 by 1 and raced. Eventually it was room 7's turn. Max's car didn't go very far. Bianca's car went all the way to the end of the assembly room and hit the wall. Dave had to move the start back 2 times. Room 7 wins! What an awesome day.

Yay! Our class might be going to Rainbow Ski Field. We only have 2 available dates to go so if they're both bad weather like today, we don't go :(. I'm not a very good skier so I'm wondering what it will be like since The last time I went skiing I couldn't quite manage the intermediate slope. Just to lighten the day up a bit here area few jokes:
- There are two sausages in a pan. One sausage says "Gee! It's pretty hot in here!" The other sausage said "Ahhhhhhhhhh! It's a talking sausage!"
- There are two cows in a field. One cow says "Moo." The other cow said "Hey! I was gonna say that!"
- There are two fish in a tank. One says "Hey! how do you drive this thing?"

Catapults
Our rich task this term is to make a machine demonstrating a whole lot of forces like kinetic energy and potential energy. I've decided to make a medieval trebuchet which uses
gravitational pull, friction, potential energy and kinetic energy. It looks like this:
Awesome skill!!!!!!!! I'm building it at home. BOOM!!! So kewl!!!!
